AC Maintenance to Save Money

May 16th, 2012

While many people understand that maintenance is generally a good thing, they shy away from spending money on it, particularly if their air conditioning system is new. However, the truth is that having regular maintenance carried out will really save you money in the long run.

A maintenance visit from one of our technicians is quite inexpensive, but the benefits over time are anything but trivial. In fact, with the minimal investment you make in maintenance, you can save tons of money in the long run.

Higher Energy Bills

May 14th, 2012

If you’ve suddenly noticed a significant increase in your energy bills, it’s quite likely that an improperly functioning air conditioning system is to blame. When this happens, it means that your current system has to work much harder than it should to cool your home.

In addition to the increased monthly energy costs it incurs, a system functioning at this level probably won’t last too much longer anyway. The increased activity and energy usage is a sign that the entire system is under a greater strain than it should be. Replacing it now rather than waiting until it gives out entirely will both save you money and keep you from having to deal with the hassle of having a broken air conditioning system on your hands in the middle of summer.

Here at All-Tech Air, our expert technicians have the skill and tools necessary to replace all manner of air conditioning systems in the Tampa Bay, Florida area. Also, we know it’s satisfied customers like you who keep us in business, so we strive to provide the highest quality service for a reasonable price every time. Call us today to let us know what we can do for you.

Programmable Thermostats

May 11th, 2012

Along these same lines, many digital thermostats are also programmable. This means that you can set them to automatically adjust the temperature of your home to different levels at different times of the day. When you’re not home, you don’t need to be heating or cooling your house, but you would like it to be comfortable when you walk in.

With a digital programmable thermostat, you can have the best of both worlds. Simply set your thermostat to heat or cool your home right before the time that you usually get home, and you’ll always walk into a comfortable environment. Plus, you won’t have to pay all those extra energy bills you would incur if you were heating or cooling your home all day long when no one was home.

Watch Your Energy Bills

May 3rd, 2012

A good way to check on the efficiency of your air conditioning system is to take a look at your past energy bills during the months when your system is in use. If the bills are going up in a way that can’t be explained by rising fuel prices or if they’ve suddenly gone up dramatically, you very well may have a problem with your air conditioning system itself.

If your AC is still working but is using more energy to do the same job, it’s probably not working the way it’s supposed to. That means it’s likely to be running too much and putting extra wear and tear on many of the internal components. When these do finally wear out, you’ll be left with an inoperable system and probably a hefty repair bill.

Chemical Cleaners and Personal Products

May 1st, 2012

While you may think that most of the chemical contaminants found in your indoor air come from outside of your house, that’s not always the case. For instance, we all use cleaning agents and health and beauty products, and many of these are loaded down with chemicals – chemicals that then wind up being released into the air in your home.

Of course, your indoor air cleaner can remove most of these, but you’re definitely better off if they were never there to begin with. So look for household cleaners and personal care products made from natural rather than chemical ingredients. These often work just as well and won’t add to the level of pollutants in your home.

Detecting Dirty Ductwork

April 30th, 2012

The warning signs that your ducts need to be cleaned can be many and varied. Sometimes there are no warning signs at all. But often, though you may suspect a problem with your home heating or cooling system, problems with the ducts are actually the culprit.

For instance, if you notice a drop off in the overall effectiveness of your home comfort system, there is a good chance that it is being caused by dirty or partially blocked ductwork. Of course, this type of problem could also indicate that there is something wrong with the heating or cooling system itself, but either way, it is something you should not ignore.

Also, if you begin to notice that your home is being heated or cooled unevenly, there is a good chance that something in your ducts is causing this imbalance in airflow. Having a professional come out and assess the situation is the only way to know for sure, but there is a very good chance that you only need a thorough duct cleaning to get your system back on track.

Germs Can’t Escape UV Light

April 27th, 2012

Certainly some bacteria and viruses get caught in mechanical filters and are removed by other air purification procedures. But even when they’re caught, these germs are still alive and can work their way free over time. There are also plenty of germs that don’t get caught, leaving them free to multiply and infest your home.

With UV germicidal lights added to your home air purification system, however, you’ll be cutting off the escape route for those germs. These lights are typically installed right after the filter mechanism, so the germs are the only particulates to come in contact with the lights. They have nowhere to hide and are quickly killed by the low-level UV radiation the lights emit.

Types of Air Cleaning Systems

April 23rd, 2012

Certain air cleaning systems are better than others at removing different types of indoor air pollution. For instance, many air purifiers can filter out pollen and other allergen particles more efficiently than others. However, they may not be as good at removing odors, gasses and smoke.

And then there are the living contaminants like mold, viruses and bacteria. These are often so small that they can evade the common filters in most air purifiers. However, installing some UV germicidal lights can get rid of those types of contaminants easily, helping to keep your family safe and healthy all year long.

So if you live in the Tampa Bay, Florida area and you’re concerned about the quality of your indoor air, give All-Tech a call today. We’re always glad to answer questions and give you an overview of the many high quality air purification products we have available.
